Festive Harbour marketplace – clothes and gifts
The Folkestone Festive Harbour Marketplace opens for the final two Friday’s before Christmas at 12 noon and trades until 8pm. Then, open every weekend from 11am to 6pm up to Christmas Eve, and there are lots of goodies to be had. There’s artwork, food and drink, clothing and gifts. Many traders at the Festive Marketplace have a personal story to tell about their creations. Not only do sales support a local creative business, but they build the community connected to Folkestone Harbour. Folkelife gives you a rundown of what you can find:
dicky smiles
If you haven’t visited Dicky’s hut yet then now is the time. You choose your artwork, created by Aaron, and it is printed straight onto the garment of your choice. There are hoodies and tees to choose from, and printed beanies and socks already made. These artworks are for the fun and frivolous big or small child in your life.
redress and tee shop
For all your vintage and pre-loved fashion needs, you’ll find plenty here. Vintage clothing is not only cool to wear but also highly sustainable – you’re giving a home to a piece of clothing new to you, rather than letting it fill landfill. There are also stocking filler presents in here and jewellery too.
south east emporium
Here’s another treasure trove of a hut with all sorts of vintage clothing and homeware in. You are certain to find some unusual gifts in here. There’s crockery and glasses, vintage posters and lampware. Take your time as the more you look, the more you will see.
potpourri pick and mix
If you like a scented decoration then this hut is for you. There’s a wealth of dried oranges and cinnamon bark here to fill even Kirsty Alsop’s needs. Pick the mix you would like, or choose from ready-selected bags of scented cones, and other items. You can smell this hut as you walk buy, so you won’t miss it.
red one design
Red One Design has been a regular at the Folkestone Marketplace since it opened during Covid. Every item they create is a one-off, unique design due to the eco-friendly ice-dying technique used. It’s not tie-dye. This is far more environmentally conscious.
lakshmi store
This hut is full of delightful clothes and gifts sourced from India. Experience the vibrant colours and feel the sun, even if it is blowing a hoolie. There are also incense sticks, candle holders, bowls and all sorts of decor for your home.
tavern creative
If you were thinking you needed matching pjs for the family, and also the dog, then this is the hut for you. Situated just in front of the Christmas Tree, and next to Dicky Smiles (who features in our Artwork section, but has lots of clothes with his artwork on) you can’t miss it.
country clobber
For the garden lover in your collection of friends and family, Country Clobber has all sorts of ornaments that suit the outdoors. From cockerels to dainty robins, you will be able to find something to remind you of Folkestone throughout the year. Not that Folkestone is overrun with cockerels, just that you bought it here.
