monopolise the Board – monopoly Folkestone Edition

Step aside Park Lane and building hotels on Old Kent Road, and move in to the Folkestone edition of Monopoly!  Hasbro, the company that makes the famous board game, is making an official Folkestone version!

Our seaside town will now be made famous, but which will be the landmarks they will use?  Up for grabs are locations on the board, and also the tokens of the car, dog, shoe and boat.  They’ll be replaced by customised images of the town.  Folkelife would love to see our mermaid and the Lighthouse, or the Harbour Arm…?

Folkestone’s contemporary feel

The ‘Stations’ will represent travel – so we could have Eurotunnel as well as Folkestone Central and the Leas Lift.  Our new F51 Skatepark could feature as a token or a mode of transport!

The original Monopoly was created in the 1930s.  Jennifer Lau, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK says: “The game will feature the great and the good of Folkestone.”   They are producing this board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

“We would love to hear from organisations and businesses that want to star in the game.  Also, we  want to hear from the public as to which Folkestone favourites and landmarks should feature on the board.

“We studied 20 places across the UK looking for the most ‘contemporary’ place to become the next MONOPOLY location in Britain.”

folkestone celebrates the best of british

“This is a board that celebrates the Best of Britain and are delighted Folkestone came out top.  It’s a great place with a very rich history and positive and dynamic outlook on the future.”

There are 22 real estate spaces on the board and the cards will be themed too, as well as the 6 tokens.

If you want to get in touch to suggest what these new locations and tokens should be then contact Jennifer Lau. Suggestions are coming in thick and fast and the closing date is 30th September 2019.  The board game will be available from March 2020.
