monopolise the Board – monopoly Folkestone Edition

Step aside Park Lane and building hotels on Old Kent Road, and move in to the Folkestone edition of Monopoly!  Hasbro, the company that makes the famous board game, has launched the official Folkestone version!

Folkestone Museum takes over the Angel Islington square and the Memorial Arch also appears on the board.  New tokens are related to the town and seaside, and include an ice cream cone, flip flops and an umbrella!

Folkestone’s contemporary feel

The original Monopoly was created in the 1930s.  Jennifer Lau, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK says: “The game will feature the great and the good of Folkestone.”   They are producing this board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

The company asked organisations and businesses around the town who should star in the game.

“The Folkestone edition of Monopoly features the great and good of the town. We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting the game together.  We’d like to thank everyone who sent in suggestions when we went through a public consultation process.”

“We studied 20 places across the UK looking for the most ‘contemporary’ place to become the next MONOPOLY location in Britain.”

folkestone celebrates the best of british

“This is a board that celebrates the Best of Britain and we are delighted Folkestone came out on top.  It’s a great place with a very rich history and positive and dynamic outlook on the future.”

The Old High Street takes the place of Vine Street on the board, and Academy FM Folkestone gets its own slot too.  The Community Chest and Chance cards have been themed too – watch you don’t lose your lunch to a pesky seagull!

The game is available to buy in town, and also online.
